Seeking God In Life

Seeking God In Life

1 Kings 22:1-7 As the King of Judah, Jehoshaphat, made plans with the King of Israel, Ahab, to enter into war with Syria, Jehoshaphat knew that the blessings of the Lord were critical to the success of the battle. Jehoshaphat asks Ahab to call a man of God to enquire of the Lord as to whether or not the Lord will bless the battle and they will claim the victory. Ahab doesn’t call one man of God, but 400 men that Ahab refers to as prophets. Jehoshaphat looks out at this crowd of men, turns to Ahab and asks this question.  “Is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might inquire of him?” What can we learn from this story that will help us in our walk with the Lord.

  1. Be careful regarding the company we keep. Jehoshaphat was a Godly king who followed the Lord. Ahab was wicked and worshipped idols. He could care less about the Lord unless he got into trouble, which happened a lot. Jehoshaphat should not have been going to Ahab in the first place. At the end of the story, Jehoshaphat almost gets killed because he decides to team up with Ahab. We need to be careful regarding the company we keep.
  2. Let’s always seek to do what God wants and ask Him for His blessings. Jehoshaphat understood this and before they went anywhere, or did anything, he wanted to seek God. This is a great principle for us to follow in our lives. Let’s seek God for his direction.
  3. We don’t need a church that has a daily circus with a bunch of people who want to showboat. For all the 400 “prophets” that Ahab called, there was not a man of God among them. They came into the room and Ahab asked if they should go forward with their battle plans. There is no prayer. There is no seeking of the Lord. There is no praise unto God.  They chatter among themselves and quickly pipe up, declaring to Ahab, go for it. God is with you. Jehoshaphat knew the difference between that kind of circus and a real man of God.  He wanted a real man of God. In our lives, we should desire a church where a man of God brings the Word of God, not a big crowd that makes a lot of noise, but never looks to the Lord.

Just a few thoughts on life  from the Pastor’s perspective.
