We start with the fact the Jesus started the church. The word “church” means called out assembly, specifically of those who believe in Jesus. The first assembly of this kind is found in Matthew 10 when Jesus called out the believers to be His disciples. In Matthew 16, Jesus claims ownership of the church. He says, “I will build my church.” W
hy church? Because the one who died to pay the price for you sins created the church. Why church? We are told we should be in church. Hebrews 10:25 says “forsake not the assembling of yourselves together.” God says to go to church.
Why church? The Lord put people there to help you. Ephesians 4:11-12 “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.” The Lord put people in that place called church just to build you and strengthen you!
Why church? So that you learn more about the Saviour who paid the price for your soul. Ephesians 4:13 “Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ.” Jesus wants you to know Him.
Why church? So that you have a place to know the joy and privilege of serving the Lord. Colossians 3:23-24 “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” The Lord rewards you as you serve Him and the place you do that is in church.
Why church? To worship the Lord who loves you! Psalm 150:1 “Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.” The Bible declares we should worship God in the house of God, which is the church. Why church? Know everything the Lord has done for you, a better question is, why not church? Church is where you should be this Sunday morning. We should find ourselves ready and knowing the answer to the question, why church.
