The Plan Of God

The Plan Of God

As Jeremiah laments over the fall of Jerusalem, God gave him the following words to begin Lamentations 2:17. “The LORD hath done that which he had devised; he hath fulfilled his word that he had commanded in the days of old.” If we think about this sentence for a minute, it holds so much of how God works in it’s words. Let’s break it down.

The Lord hath done that which He had devised.  God had a plan. What happened in Jerusalem was exactly what God had planned, what God had devised. We should remember that God always has a plan. It does not matter what the circumstances are, but that we realize that God is still on the throne, still in control, knows what is going on, and He still has a plan.

The same verse also says that He hath fulfilled His Word. God is a God who keeps His Word. If God says it, it is going to happen. More than that, we have His Word, so we should know what is going on. We may be struggling today, but we can comfort in knowing we have His Word with His promises and His Word is sure.

The next phrase says that He had commanded it. God is in command. He is in charge. We may not get that based on the craziness we see in life, but God is in control. When we cannot see our way through, we can turn to the Captain of the Lord’s host, knowing that He has it all together and under control.

Let’s take some comfort in knowing that we are living out the plan of God.
