The Work of God

The Work of God

If we are Christians, called by the name of Jesus, then we are called to the work of God. Not everyone has the same work to do within God’s plan, which is the local church, but everyone is called to the work. So what does it take to do the work of God? Ezra 5:2 says this. “Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God helping them.” This leads to three basic components in the doing of the work of God.

There must be a dedication to the work of God. “Then rose up Zerubbabel.” There was a man dedicated enough to the work that he could not be idle. The work needed to eb done and the man was ready, anxious, and willing to do the work. He was dedicated to making sure that the work of God got done. How dedicated are you to making sure the work of God at your church gets done?

Next, there must be a design for the work of God. They were going to build the house of God. They had a plan and they would work their plan. During the Covid shutdown, we didn’t. We came up with a plan. We got hand sanitizer. We took temperatures. We made sure there were masks for everyone. What we did not do was shut down. We planned for the house of God to go forward. We must plan for the house of God and the work of God to go on regardless of what the world around us does.

Finally, there must be a devotion of the people to the work of God. No one person can get it done alone. Jeshua joined Zerubbabel. Then the other prophets of God joined in. The people were devoted to the work. If our church is to prosper before the Lord, we need to have people who are devoted to the work of God; people who will make the house of God a priority.

Let us take a lesson from the book of Ezra. Let’s get determined to do the work of God. It takes dedication. It takes design. It takes devotion. You are called unto the work of God, so should you get determined about doing the work?
