Uncontrollable Circumstances

Uncontrollable Circumstances

For a lot of his ministry, Paul had to roll with what happened in his life. We see that as he was being taken to Rome and became shipwrecked along the way. Acts 27:41-44 (KJV)  And falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast, and remained unmoveable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves. And the soldiers’ counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out, and escape. But the centurion, willing to save Paul, kept them from their purpose; and commanded that they which could swim should cast themselves first into the sea, and get to land: And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.

Paul had no control over this shipwreck. Yet as bad as it got, his circumstances never got the better of him. He never got stressed. He did not express worry. He simply expressed his confidence in Christ. There are all sorts of things that Paul could have questioned. Lord, why don’t you stop the storm? Lord, why don’t you protect the sip? Lord, why are you putting me through this? Paul did not question the Lord. What we find is that Christ is all he needed. The Lord never failed him. After the shipwreck, the Lord had prepared a people to help him. When he arrived in Rome, God had prepared a place for him and a people to receive him.

God will not fail you either, because Jesus never fails. We may not always understand why our life seems so hard and why our circumstances are often really harsh and hard. What we do know is that the Lord will be there when we seek Him and His help. Let’s give the Lord a chance, even in the midst of our uncontrollable circumstances.
